Inventory Removal and Disposal: The More Cost-Effective Way to Handle Slow-Moving Stock

Slow-moving inventory is not something to "leave for now" — every day it sits, it costs you. Remove or dispose: do the math based on goods value.

What this rule covers

Amazon gives sellers two disposal channels: Removal and Disposal.

Removal: send inventory back from FBA to a designated address, or transfer it to an overseas warehouse.

Disposal: Amazon destroys it directly; the seller does not get the goods back.

Both require an order through Seller Central, are charged per unit, and have processing times.

For specific fees and available options, per Amazon's latest official rules.

What it means for sellers

The core of disposal is doing the math: is this stock still worth saving?

Worth saving: high value, still has a market — remove to the overseas warehouse, relabel and sell again.

Not worth saving: low value, bulky, no market — disposal to cut losses is the better deal.

Delay and storage fees keep accruing, and you may trigger long-term storage fees.

How logistics supports this

Removed goods need someone to receive them, somewhere to store them, and a way to ship them out again.

Huaqiutong's US overseas warehouse can take FBA removal goods and handle relabeling, labeling and repacking.

After that you can choose: re-enter FBA, ship direct-to-consumer from the overseas warehouse, or sell on other platforms.

Once this chain works, slow movers are no longer "dead stock" but sellable inventory again.

Removal has processing times and may be slower in peak season. If you need to free up capacity, place the order early and don't get stuck at an assessment deadline.

For goods removed to the overseas warehouse, first check whether labels are complete; fill in the missing ones so they can re-enter the warehouse quickly.

For large quantities, process in batches: save the sellable ones first, then handle the rest.

Method Result Suited to
Removal Get goods back, can resell High value, resellable
Disposal Destroyed directly Low value, no market
Removal to overseas warehouse Relabel then re-enter warehouse / direct-to-consumer Slow movers worth saving

Checklist and common misjudgments

Checklist: first grade your slow movers: savable, watch, cut losses.

Savable ones go to removal; contact the overseas warehouse in advance to receive them.

Cut-loss ones go to disposal; stop paying storage fees on them.

Verify unit counts before removal to avoid short or missed receipts.

Before disposal, run three numbers: removal cost, overseas warehouse cost, and expected resale revenue.

Misjudgment one: disposing of everything is easier. Dispose of high-value goods and you're throwing money away.

Misjudgment two: removal solves everything. If no one receives the goods and no one resells them, the storage fee has just moved somewhere else.

Huaqiutong tip: Before deciding on removal, ask one question: can this stock still sell, and where? If it has a market, let Huaqiutong's overseas warehouse receive it, relabel it, and re-enter it into FBA or ship direct-to-consumer. If it has no market, dispose of it decisively. Don't let "leave it a bit longer" turn into long-term storage fees.
